Night Visits (100 Words) by Colin Davies

Claire knew that smell: a mixture of cigarettes and hops. It was her father. She had known this version of love from him for as long as she could remember. There were still three months to wait before she turned sixteen but today was still an anniversary. She didn’t like these ‘Daddy Cuddles’, though.
They didn’t hurt anymore.
They had been the only connection she ever had with him. These night visits with his ‘Special Girl’; the photos in the album; and the name on his grave. It’d been sixteen years to the day since the car accident.
